Laser removal of superficial vascular lesions such as leg veins, spider veins, telangiectasia, & cherry angiomas
Lasers produce light of a certain colour (wavelength) and Vascular Lasers produce a wavelength of light that is strongly attracted to the red pigment in blood cells (oxyhaemoglobin). If enough light is concentrated in a blood vessel then heat is generated and if enough heat is produced then the blood vessel can be sealed off, what we call photocoagulation.
Intense Pulsed light consists of a band of wavelengths (rather than the single wavelength of lasers) and with the right choice of filters the IPL can also be used to heat up and remove unwanted blood vessels.

A typical treatment costs $385. Smaller localised vascular areas can be less expensive.
This varies with the nature of the condition, severity and level of improvement desired.
Conditions, such as Rosacea, are usually 3-5 treatments, and then singular maintenence treatments every 6-12 months.
Broken capillaries from sun damage often take 2-3 treatments to clear and then it might be every 1-2 years that further new capillaries might need to be treated. Daily use of sunscreen can help slow the rate of new vessels forming.
Blood vessels around the nose respond well to treatment but nearly always slowly come back, especially if there are any other conditions, such as sinus issues, that create congestion in the nasal area.
Treatments are spaced about 4-8 weeks apart, depending on the wavelength used & area of treatment. If the time between treatments is longer, that is fine, it will just take longer to get your best result.
Typically, there is no downtime and you can return to your daily activities immediately following the procedure. BUT there are some aftercare instructions to consider (see below).
Potential side effects are Bruising, prolonged redness, & scabbing. This can be deemed "unsightly" and many of our clients wish to complete a series in the fall & winter months.
Excess sun exposure needs to be avoided before vascular laser treatment and if there is any sunburn, laser treatment will need to be deferred.
Apply a cool compress to relieve swelling or reduce warm sensations if needed. Use only wrapped cool packs, never apply ice directly to skin.
Until irritation has resolved or at least for 48 hours post treatment:
Do not use skin products that contain active ingredients (e.g. vitamin A and AHA) for 5-7 days, or
until irritation has completely resolved.
Do not pick, remove, or pull at any darkened lesions as scarring may occur.
Do not shave the treated area if crusting is evident.
If treated on the face avoid laying flat for the next 24 hours, try to sleep with 2 pillows.
Avoid direct sun exposure between treatments.
Apply SPF to protect exposed treated areas.
